Dr. Kohl is the owner of Talk it Out, LLC. Dr. Kohl has 15+ years of therapy experience working with a wide variety of mental health issues and specializes in depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Dr. Kohl also works with clients diagnosed with bipolar disorder, low self-esteem/self-worth, issues with self-identity, self-harm behaviors, loss/grief, life transitions, and personality disorders.
Most recently, Dr. Kohl was the Executive Clinical Director of DecisionPoint Wellness Center, a co-occurring disorders treatment center for addiction and mental health disorders, located in Johns Creek, GA. Dr. Kohl has also provided therapy and neuropsychological assessment services at North Metro Psychological Services, Alana Recovery Center, the Shephard Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Alpharetta Counseling for Children and Adults, Marietta Counseling for Children and Adults, Caminar Latino, and the Georgia State University Psychology Clinic.
As a therapist, Dr. Kohl strives to create a warm and welcoming environment so that his clients feel safe and heard while discussing difficult issues. He is skilled in client-centered, systemic, and emotion-focused therapies, and will often include other theoretical orientations, such as CBT, ACT, and DBT, to meet the specific needs of his clients. Dr. Kohl takes a flexible and integrative approach using the biopsychosocial model to meet the specific needs of each of his clients.
Throughout Dr. Kohl’s academic career, he has published 12 articles, presented at professional conferences, and continues to teach continuing education courses (CEUs) to other licensed mental health professionals. Dr. Kohl has uses his understanding and expertise in neuroscience and neuropsychology to help inform his psychotherapy practice by offering neurotherapy and biofeedback, both of which are empirically based treatments that are a safe and effective adjunct to traditional talk therapy.
